Logo
let's put up a temporary logo (anything is better than what is there now (the sunflower) Nice idea, BUT the wrong logo, here we need bevolunteer and in blue, please! For the short term you will find the bevolunteer logo in the forum under design (layout) team. Otherwise we ll wait for Micha to prepare a special wiki draft :) Kiwiflave 21:14, 15 July 2007 (CEST)
New logo online, perfect, thanks! Kiwiflave 13:38, 20 July 2007 (CEST)
Rewrite?
The texts on this page could need some rewriting. I think it could be good to set up a Text team, which could simply be a part of the Translation team, focusing on the English texts. Guaka 11:55, 20 May 2007 (CEST)
Ah, still learning how it works in here... yes, I agree, Kasper, maybe you could suggest some wordings? You have so much experience with this.. ;) :P Kiwiflave 00:25, 21 May 2007 (CEST)
- First thing to rewrite, in the first lines it is said "NGO BeVolunteer". The exact wording should be "the non-profit association BeVolunteer". Thx to any admin who can change that. Playschool 22:57, 2 August 2007 (CEST)
Looks
The blue background for the mission statement doesn't look too nice ... it rather screams in your face. Another color would be better (not necessarily the default one). Fake51 14:06, 22 June 2007 (CEST)
- Maybe a bit lighter? Is the side-by-side thing more or less okay like this?
- I have some more ideas for the main page layout, but I want to do it step-by-step :) 14:24, 22 June 2007 (CEST)
I like the idea a lot! Logically the Mission statement should go on the left page, no? But doesn t matter so much. The blue is a bit dark, true. In general try to get rid of grey backgrounds and put more colour. The logo will be in blue so the background could be a nice bright yellow, in general some nice yellow would give it a friendlier atmosphere, no? Kiwiflave 14:37, 22 June 2007 (CEST)
Also I find this "Welcome to BeVolunteer" bar extremely ugly. We can leave it away and write sth like BeVolunteer Main Page, Welcome! in the normal heading which is there already... Kiwiflave 14:40, 22 June 2007 (CEST)
- Yeah, I was happy to ditch the Welcome to BV thing. :)
- Now, which normal heading do you mean?
- For the rest, I'll wait till amylin is setting next to me later this week, she's quite good at colors and design. guakaBW, wikitalk 15:56, 22 June 2007 (CEST)
Great work!! I would call the welcome heading sth like that: Welcome to the information platform of BeVolunteer! Or sth nicer for "information platform"? But I would prefer to name it what it is, in its function, don t want the word wiki in there as it doesn t tell our members anything, no? Can t wait to see the female touch on the layout :)) Kiwiflave 20:44, 22 June 2007 (CEST)
Rose background
Kasper, you took the background off for a moment? I prefered the pure white background to the strange rose one ;) At a next stage we would need something nice Blue as blue is the main colour representing BeVolunteer (the logo is still to come, of course) cheers Kiwiflave 20:49, 10 July 2007 (CEST)
- Do you mean the background on all pages? If so, I'm happy to change into pure white. Or do you mean something that is only on the Main Page? guakaBW, wikitalk 13:06, 11 July 2007 (CEST)
Improving this page
Hi Kasper,
here some ideas:
- move the mission and objectives back up, they are the reason for the organisation.
- rename the heading (currently called welcome to BV wiki), call it "Welcome to the BeVolunteer - a non-profit volunteer organisation"
- the small description text is good, I suggest to write: Please note that only a limited part of this wiki is readable if you are not a volunteer for BeWelcome or member of the NGO BeVolunteer. For us it is important to create a work atmosphere where all our volunteers can freely express and develop their innovative ideas. However, we strongly believe in transparency and will constantly monitor our progress in making as much information as possible accessible to the public. Please join a BeWelcome team to be able to view (and edit almost) all pages.
- maybe we can find a structure so it gets more clear where the part of BV as official organisation is and where the projects start (BW work area, BeAcademy - if we call it like that)...
- do we really need the tabs at the main page? I would love to have the whole thing look less like a wiki but more like the official website of BeVolunteer. Also the main page should not necessarily be subject to a lot of work (no idea if you understand what i mean)
- rename the heading for the box "BeVolunteer members" into "volunteer work area"
20th July 2007, Florian
- Done. I will just try make them a bit smaller somehow.
- Done.
- Without "the" though, in English :)
- Done.
- This is a harder question. I think templates are useful for this. The problem is that we're trying to do many things on this single platform. We should get a better idea of what the BeVolunteer Wiki is, and why!
- Will do that right now.
- guakaBW, wikitalk 13:28, 20 July 2007 (CEST)
look...
maybe a light blue backgroup would help to make the page content getting out of all the wiki stuff around...
But in any case no big issue... Pierre-Charles (pietshah)wikitalk 18:57, 20 July 2007 (CEST)
Tagline
I don't understand the use of this sentence: From the BeVolunteer Wiki, a workspace for volunteers - could you help me there? Kiwiflave 13:23, 25 July 2007 (CEST)
- See MediaWiki talk:Tagline. guakaBW, wikitalk 14:44, 25 July 2007 (CEST)
Freedom of expression
- "For us it is important to create a work atmosphere where all our volunteers can freely express and develop their innovative ideas."
For me it's a lot easier to express and develop my innovative ideas when I know that anyone can read, edit and improve my work :) So maybe "us" should be "some of us"? guakaBW, wikitalk 18:42, 31 July 2007 (CEST)
Why? The fact that you don't like the forum (which is our place to speak) doesn't help, I know, but it is our tool right now. The wiki is documentation. Kiwiflave 23:30, 31 July 2007 (CEST)
- I think I didn't express myself properly. This is what I wanted to communicate: I think that idees are better developed in an open transparent way. Be it a wiki, a forum, a mailing list, I think it's much better if anyone can see what is going on - and give feedback - if wanted. It's pretty important to me. So I don't really belong to "us" in this case :) But, well, this is just a small detail, so don't worry about it. :) guakaBW, wikitalk 18:27, 1 August 2007 (CEST)
If you want to be absolutely correct "us" would of course have to be "most of us". Everything in BeVolunteer is about compromises. As we are many people with pretty different background and strong personality it is very unlikely that decisions, guidelines, rules, official statements, ... are 100% in line with 100% of all of us. So work in BeVolunteer and BeWelcome, as life in general (imho) is a current search for the best compromise and then everybody has to try hard to be happy with it. philipplangeBW, wikitalk 09:49, 2 August 2007 (CEST)
- I agree to what Philipp says, in fact the way we have it now is the result of a compromise and many discussions. If you want, change the text into
"Please note that only a limited part of this wiki is readable if you are not a volunteer for BeWelcome or member of the NGO BeVolunteer. This is due to a security/transparency compromise we needed to find in order to provide a creative work environment for our highly diverse volunteer crew. Nevertheless, we strongly believe in transparency and will constantly monitor our progress in making as much information as possible accessible to the public. Please join a BeWelcome team to be able to view (and edit almost) all pages."
