Philosophy and Values
( Democracy - Transparency - Privacy - Trust - Decentralization - How We Want To Keep BW - Members Bill of Rights )
According to the Oxford Dictionary:
"Trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something."
Trust from members in online networks comes from transparency and respect for privacy.
These are our current trust systems:
- New memberships are manually checked by volunteers
- Members can leave comments for each other
There are preliminary plans to create a more advanced trust system.
Volunteer trust
There are many BeWelcome volunteers. Some of them have access to private information of users, either directly (safety team) or indirectly (development team).
In general you cannot base trust on signing an NDA. Trust stems from knowing people, through their actions, both online and offline. The NDA is an extra safeguard for people that have access to more information than usual. Most volunteers don't have access to the addresses of all members and don't need to sign our NDA.
